Opera Nights: Wagner & Strauss is an attempt to chronicle, reminisce and reflect on the effect of half a century of listening to, and seeing, operas by Richard Wagner and Richard Strauss.
A brief essay on each opera is followed by memories of opera performances attended (around 150 are included) and supplemented by the views of critics from specialist journals and the national press. The book concludes with an account of Richard Wagner’s three visits to London.
Opera Nights: Rossini, Donizetti & Verdi is a sequel (working in progress). This features the operas of Gioachino Rossini, Gaetano Donizetti and Giuseppe Verdi.
